Welcome to our Classroom Blog!

Each week, we will be posting classroom news and events. Generally this site is updated each Friday evening, so be sure to visit our blog on the weekend to keep up-to-date!

Our First Ten Days of School

Wow!  Such a busy time! We have had Picture Day, Curriculum Night and Fire Drills! We are delighted that our little ones are adapting well to the many classroom routines. We are especially proud of our SK students for helping and setting a good example for our JK students.  Thank you to all families who were able to attend Curriculum Night. We enjoyed meeting you and speaking to you about your child's progress.

Lunch and Snacks

Thank you for sending in labelled (1-2-3) snacks and lunches. This helps your child independently identify what to eat at a specific time. We continue to encourage our students to eat nutritious snacks for "number 1" (morning) and to have treats for "number 3" (afternoon).

Many parents find that their child is not eating all of the food sent in each day. This could be due to a number of factors. Either a child is not hungry that day, or they can be too "busy" or distracted to eat. We encourage your child to eat in a variety of ways. We provide numerous reminders each morning and afternoon to eat. Typically last calls for snacks are made at 11:00 am and 2:15 pm each day. Our lunch period, is a quiet time where students are not encouraged to socialize but to focus on feeding their bodies. We also ask students to send home food that they are unable to finish or don't care for so that you may monitor what they are eating. If your child is always hungry and eats all of their meals, we will send a note home requesting that the portions be increased!!!

We’d also like to remind parents to send peanut-free/nut-free food products to school with your children to provide a “minimized Allergen Environment” for all students, particularly those with anaphylaxis (a life-threatening medical condition that can result in death in minutes). For this same reason, we do not allow treats for birthdays or celebrations and monitor this very closely.

Indoor Shoes & Change of Clothes

With fall's arrival, our hot "summer" days will soon come to an end. With autumn, comes rain and a muddy Kindergarten playground. Please be sure to send in your child's indoor shoes. Crocs and sandals are not appropriate footwear for Phys. Ed. activities. Running shoes with velcro are appropriate indoor shoes that your child will be able to change into independently. Please be sure to replenish your child's change of clothes when wet or soiled clothes are sent home. We also request that sweaters, jackets and hats be labelled with your child's name.

Toys from Home

Please keep toys from home at home. When children bring in their special treasures they run the risk of losing them or having them broken. We cannot be responsible for lost or broken toys. 😢

Literacy and Numeracy

God has called of each of us by name, and we want your child to know how special they are. Our literacy and numeracy focus has been on child's names. Our name puzzles have allowed children to recognize their names while honing their fine motor skills. We have completed a graph "How Many Letters are in Your Name?" and compared the length of names in our class. JKs are encouraged to write their first names in their weekly journal entries while SKs write their first and last names in their journals. We request that you practice this skill with your child at home.

Scholastic Book Orders

Last week we placed our first Scholastic book order. Scholastic Canada offers a wide-array of age-appropriate books at reasonable prices.  Ordering through Scholastic is a great way to build your child’s home library as well as to allow teachers to purchase classroom materials. October order forms will go home this coming week.  Please know that participation is completely voluntary.

Dear friends, parents and families, It is with mixed emotions that I would like to announce that I will be leaving Room 103 at St. Andrew...
