Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!

Some of our little ones are experiencing their first Canadian winter! Wow! What fun!
Please ensure your child is dressed for outdoor play each day - and an extra pair of mittens and socks won't hurt!

Rosary Apostolate Visit

Mrs. C. from the Rosary Apostolate visited our class on Wednesday. She shared with the children the Third Joyful Mystery - The Nativity.
We are learning the prayers of the Rosary, including the Our Father and Hail Mary.
Together we sing hymns to Mary.

Bus Safety Presentation

On Thursday, our students watched, and participated in, a presentation on bus safety.

Merry Christmas Around the World!

As a classroom inquiry, we are learning how to say "Merry Christmas" in different languages. We invite families to create a decorative "card" displaying how this sentiment is wished in different countries. So far, we have received many messages in Korean, Fresian, Scots-Gaelic, Hungarian, Spanish and Portuguese.  This is an opportunity for students to learn about other countries and to proudly share their heritage.

Advent Bags and Journals

Each day the Advent bag is sent home to a different student for one night. Thank you to those who have taken time to share the Christmas Nativity story and to prepare an entry about how your family prepares for Jesus' birthday. We have enjoyed learning about different family traditions and the children really enjoy presenting their stories.

Joy Day

Parents are invited to attend Joy Day in Room 103 on Wednesday, December 20th between 10:00 and 11:30 am. You will have an opportunity to work on holiday crafts with your child and snuggle up with a good Christmas book.

Outdoor Weather

With the cold weather here, we kindly ask that the children come dressed for these cooler temperatures (i.e. hat, mittens, snow pants and boots). They will be spending a minimum of one hour outdoors each day. We are strongly recommending that parents please review dressing skills at home (zipping zippers, doing up buttons, putting coats and snow pants on). We will continue to support parents in developing these independent and necessary skills. Also, please label all clothing articles (hats, mitts, boots, snow pants, etc.) We are finding that many children have the same outdoor clothing and also wear the same size! Thanking you in advance for your support.

PAT Time

Thank you for helping to prepare your child for the weekly PAT presentations! Our little ones are doing a wonderful job segmenting words into sounds. You may want to review the PAT letters we have covered as you read each night with your child. Finding words that begin with the PAT letter in storybooks and they sounding out the word is a helpful exercise.

Please note that PAT time will be cancelled for the week of December 18th.

Reading Buddies

Each Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Spence's Grade 5 class visits our classroom, to share the joy of reading. Reading buddies enjoy a book together, either by the older student reading aloud a story, or even having the kindergarten student read the story!

Countdown to Christmas!

Class Advent Bag

We've begun our countdown to Christmas in Room 103. On Thursday, November 30th, we attended a school wide Feast Day of St. Andrew and First Week of Advent liturgy in the gym. This past Friday we sent home an advent bag to one JK and to one SK student. Each student will have a chance to take the Advent bag home for one night only. In the bag is a book, nativity items and an Advent Journal. Please read the story to your child and enjoy the nativity items. Talk about Advent and then have your child draw a picture in the Advent Journal and help him/her to write about how your family prepares for Jesus' birthday. Please return the bag and all of its contents the following day so that everyone will have an opportunity to take it home. Kindly make this a supervised activity so that we not lose any pieces.

Joy Day - Wednesday Morning, December 20th!

On December 20th, the school will celebrate "joy day". Parents of kindergarten students are invited to visit their child's classroom and enjoy a morning of Christmas crafts and stories. More details will follow.

Bullying Awareness Day - "Be a Buddy, Not A Bully!"

On November 29th, St. Andrew marked Bullying Awareness Day. Staff and students were encouraged to wear pink. Our class talked about showing God's love as an alternative.to bullying. We sang "Love Is Something If You Give It Away". We created a "friendship web" with yarn and  children were invited to share what they liked about a classmate.
